A view of Sidmouth
A view of Sidmouth

Sidmouth is a town situated on the English Channel coast in DevonSouth West England, 14 miles (23 km) east-southeast of Exeter.

Ottery St Mary, known as “Ottery”, is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Exeter.

The Sidmouth and Ottery Saint Mary Branch of East Devon Constituency Labour Party covers towns and hinterlands with populations of around 5K (Ottery) and 15K (Sidmouth) within the Parliamentary Constituency of East Devon. In October 2019 of the 6 East Devon District Councillors for Sidmouth 5 are members of The East Devon Alliance and 1 is Conservative whilst the 3 for Ottery are members of the Independent group.

The branch has about 300 members and some regularly come to our monthly meetings. As the majority of members live in Sidmouth these are held there but we are open to facilitating more engagement in Ottery. We normally meet in the Unitarian Church Hall on the 3rd Tuesday of every month except August (when we don’t meet) and December when we meet a week earlier for a Christmas Social.

We try to mix local and national campaigning, working with comrades in larger branches such as Exmouth or the neighbouring constituency of Exeter. Also on our agendas may be speakers, socials and fund-raising, all with an eye on enhancing our profile in the community. All are welcome and once you are registered as a member you should receive monthly communications with details of meetings and minutes with agenda if you let us know your e-mail address. You should find out how to contact the CLP Secretary by logging in through your Membership Card. We look forward to hearing from you!
